Castle Lift

Castle Lift

A different kind of lift

The year 2003 brought a significant change to Riegersburg castle. A funicular lift was put into operation, allowing visitors to ascend the castle hill by using modern transportation.

Previously, many people found it difficult to visit the castle. This was due to factors such as physical disabilities, prams, a tight schedule, or simply lack of time. These challenges have now been overcome. The castle lift transports guests from the visitor centre on the northern side of the castle rock to the castle tavern, a hundred metres higher, in just 90 seconds. With a capacity for 25 people, even larger groups can be transported quickly.

Thus, the castle has become somewhat more modern and increasingly meets the challenges of the 21st century.
