Wenzelstor (Fortified Gate)
This gate is the sixth of seven gates and was built in 1653 by the “Gallerin“.
On either side of the portal are the marble figures of Mars and Bellona, the gods of war.
Above the passage on the right, the “Gallerin” had the following inscription placed: “What I built over a period of 16 years, is worth seeing. I do not regret a penny; I consider it to be for the benefit of the fatherland.”
Additional inscriptions are in the honour of God and the Emperor.
The coat of arms, supported by two lions, belongs to the Wechsler family, the birth family of the “Gallerin”. This coat of arms can be found several times in and around the castle. Next to the coat of arms are the medallions displaying the portraits of Emperor Ferdinand III and his wife. One enters the outer castle court through the splendid Wenzel Gate.
